We have stairs! We have deck stairs and basement stairs, and we have a poured slab in the basement. Yay!!
We drove up with the dogs and spent our first night actually in the cabin Saturday. The new trapezoidal windows aren't in yet, but Steve duct-taped some plastic up to keep the bugs out. It actually wasn't very buggy at all, even on the porch after dark. We brought up a couple of air mattresses and sleeping bags and slept up in the loft. The stairs going up to the loft are open backed, which I thought might be a problem for the dogs. Kaeli was very hesitant at first and required several false starts and lots of cajoling, but she finally mastered the stairs. Poor Ruby wouldn't even attempt the steps, so Steve had to carry her up and down. Next weekend we'll sleep on the main floor. Seventy pounds of dog is a lot to carry.
It was a working trip. We cleaned up all the excess wood and shavings from the loft and main floor, and moved all the wood that we wanted to keep into the basement. Up and down, up and down, with loads of lumber. Better than a stairmaster and weight bench.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some plumbing connected soon and will be able to set a toilet and sink. The portolet is down by the road, so at least there's a place to go, but washing up is a pain.
Now that all the trees are in full leaf, the view from the porch is awesome. Because the basement is above ground, and because the land is steep, it feels like we've built a giant treehouse. We're right out there in the canopy.
