Cabin Update

Progress! How exciting to see something besides that stack of block! The subfloor is on, the holes have been dug for the deck supports, the temporary power has been hooked up.

Now that there is a ceiling on the basement, it's a little easier to envision how the rooms will be laid out because you can see where the staircase down into the basement will be.

It was unseasonably warm and a little misty on Saturday, good weather for walking all around the property. We have a lot of land up the mountain behind us. The back of our property borders an old logging road that is great for hiking.

Even though the overall land is steep, there are several naturally level areas that we plan to connect with meandering natural walkways and deck areas. One area is by this ginormous boulder up behind the house. The top of the rock is fairly flat and would make a great area for a small deck.

Another stop on the trail, on up from the big boulder, will be the firepit that we built in June 2006. We were up there to mark the site and orientation of the house. We gathered some rocks and stacked them around a little flat area and had our first little fire. There's a huge smoke vine growing near the pit that makes a naturally springy seat.

Dude, that is exciting news. I'm happy for you guys and bummed at the same time because I know with every beam that's added you're that much closer to leaving York. :-(

Can't wait to see it all finished! Some questions/comments:
- how many acres?
- where's the hot tub going?
- can you hike on a logging road with monkeys flying out of your butt?
- you should clean those leaves out of the fire pit, they might catch on fire.
- that is one big rock Steve is standing next to mullethead
- it's really beautiful there
- if you're going to live in the mountains, you're gonna have to learn to make moonshine, quilts and beet pickles (you also need to learn to dip, chew and spit).

I want to go up there! When can we go??
