It was a year ago today that we realized we had sold our house in Margate. By realized, I mean that we had put it up for sale less than a week before, thinking that it would take months to sell. Then we got the call from our agent that it was a done deal. I knew the couple that looked at it liked it; I heard an "Oh, wow!" more than once as I was sitting there pretending to be engrossed in my computer work. How could you not love my house? At least in my opinion.
The patio area was my favorite. Hurricane Wilma destroyed our pool enclosure; after months of waiting for our screen contractor to finally do the contracted work, the result was a more practical, aesthetically pleasing space consisting of a roofed screened portion and an open area over the pool. It was on this patio, on Thanksgiving 2006, that we broke the news to our best friends that we had sold the house and had to move in about 3 weeks, which meant we got to enjoy the finished patio for about 3 weeks. If you ever want to see pictures of it, let me know. I took pictures of all of my favorite parts of the house before we moved.
Needless to say, as one who invested a lot of her soul and personality into developing a dwelling, and then leaving it, I've felt a bit rootless since then. But that journey is another post. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'm thankful for my ability to let things go, even as I mourn their passing.

I knew that the move was unexpected and that you were understandably unsettled, but I didn’t realize that you were SO connected to that house. Have you always had these attachments issues with buildings or was it just that house? LOL.
I was a small attachment to that house - I had lots of fun times and meals there and I also mourn the fact that Valerie & Steve are not around the corner any longer. But I know them, and the attachments they create at each home they reside in become special, meaningful memories.
Happy Thanksgiving from almost in Margate, FL aka Sue et al
Sue, you were a small attachment to the house? Like a tool shed or a cobblestone walkway? LOL.
We know you miss them there but we are VERY glad to have them here.
Besides... Valerie needs to get back to her hillbilly roots every 4-5 years or she'll implode.
